Psychology and Weight Loss

When it comes to weight loss all of us tend to pay attention to diet, dieting programs, weight loss exercises, cutting down calories and so on and so forth. What all of us forget is the psychological aspect of obesity and psychological aspect of weight loss. Psychology and weight loss are closely connected.

Are you over eating?

It cannot be stressed enough how our mind and body work together. Your mental state has a great part to play in terms of your physical health and vice versa. So as much as you pay attention to the other aspects of weight loss, do pay attention to your mental health too and make it an integral part of your weight loss efforts.

Often we tend to eat more when we are depressed, stressed, bored etc. If we don’t handle these issues properly, we will end up with chronicle depression, anxiety disorders. In turn, we will tend to eat more to deal with these issues and over a period of time we will get used to eating too much. Here the root cause is our psychological issues but once our body get used to too much of food, even after we deal with the psychological issues our body will demand for so much of food. Then we may have to fight with our excessive weight problems separately. On the other hand, if we deal with our psychological issues right at the beginning, we will set right the problem before our body gets used to the other defense mechanisms that we use. So always, see things in perspective. Our body is fully connected with mind and what is happening in our mind affects our body and vice versa. Only when we take a holistic approach our weight loss efforts will get us the required results. If you don’t deal with the psychological issues but try to work out excessively or take pills, it will be of no use because you will not be able to lose weight, as you will continue to over eat, as the root cause still remains deep-seated.
